Over the years i have found it a real challenge having a oily skin specially in the afternoon. It all started when in was on my 4th year in highschool. It is only after my professor gave this project, i realized to search if having a oily skin is connect with the endocrine system. Not only the fact that iI have to live with it. Sometimes I had to use tissue paper to wipe the oil several times a day ruining my make up.
I have always wondered if there is an actual cause aside from growing up, pollution and aside from the weather conditions. After all we use medication to treat and prevent them which are prescribed by physicians but unfortunately this medications can also cause irritation to others making it only much worse. As I enter my highschool you will see the students starting to wear make up that's when I started too. Having the excitement to try wear make up not knowing if it is safe to use.
I also started to get acne at that point I was afraid of having the thought that they might get worst just like my other classmate so I tried different medications being advertised in the television until they had gone worse. So my mother gave me a hypoallergenic soap that is natural and mild.
So generally as we all know that oily skin is caused by hereditary, diet, cosmetic use , weather conditions and part of growing up which related to hormones. As we reach out adolescent years the flow of sebum or oil increases and decreases as we age.
WHAT ARE THE CAUSES?
- THE THYROID
- the opposite is true when hyperthyroidism develops. The over production of hormone particularly the thyroid enhanced the bodily system to produce or operate at overdrive due to their being sped-up by an aver active thyroid gland. it results in sweat glands and oil secreting glands to produce more of this moisturizing that are needed.
- DIHYDROTESTOSTERONE (DHT)
- a metabolite of testosterone hormone that appears first at puberty in both males and females, during adolescence this androgenic hormone causes the growth and enlargement of sebaceous glands.
- PREGNANCY AND MENOPAUSE
- cause by rapid hormonal changes activates the sebaceous glands to produce more oil.
Endocrine system is the study of chemical communication systems that control a variety of physiological processes, it contains transmitters, signals and receivers that are known as the hormones, hormone producing cells and receptors.
The endocrine system is also made up of glands that secretes and produce hormones, they are also chemical messenger created by the body. They transmitt information from one cell to another to coordinate with the functions of the body. These hormones helps in the regulation of body's growth, sexual development, and metabolism and function. The hormones are released in the blood stream affecting several organs of the body.
Major Glands of the Endocrine System
- Hypothalamus
- it controls and activates a part of nervous system that controls involuntary functions of the body such as stimulating appetite and regulating sleep.
- Pituitary Gland
- produces different hormones that influence other endocrine glands
- Thymus
- it functions for the body's immune system
- Parathyroid Gland
- maintains calcium level in blood by secreting hormone
- Adrenal
- has 2 regions; it secretes hormones that influence the nervous system in the response and defense against stress and it also influences the metabolism of the body, body characteristics and blood chemicals.
- Pineal body
- present in daily biological routines
- Reproductive organs
- involves in the female and male characteristics
- Pancreas
- controls the body's use of glucose by secreting the hormone (insulin)
